Week of May 1st

Reading: "Journeys" - This week the students will listen to the story The Velveteen Rabbit and compare the Rabbit in that story to Edward Tulane.
We will review how to use quotation marks correctly in their writing and they will write a dialog between the characters in the story applying what they learned.

Students will also read a Time for Kids magazine. There will be a quiz on Thursday.

Spelling:  Unit 29 - Contractions and Figurative Language
This week's test will  consist of contractions. We will also focus on figurative language. Idioms, similes,  metaphors, and adages will  be part of the vocabulary work  this week.

Social Studies:  Our  study of the Southwest finishes with a look at the Native Americans of the region, The Navajo. We will focus on their culture and how they work to continue their traditions in present day society.

Science: We will begin our unit on Simple Machines. This week the students will learn what a scientist means by work, what a simple machine is and how a lever changes the way work is done.

Mrs. Bucklin's Math Class:  We will complete Unit 6, Multiplication, Division, Data and Fractions.   We will continue to learn strategies for division using a ratio table. The test will be given on Thursday. The students will be given a  practice test to help prepare for the test on Monday.
