Week of September 25th

Important Dates:
Sept 27- Early Dismissal

Reading:  This week we will continue the fourth grade Courage unit. We are working with a story called Happy Birthday, Dr. King written by Kathryn D. Jones.  This text will help us work on answering text-dependent questions as well as understand cause and effect.  The students will also be doing vocabulary assignments in Google Classroom.

English: In English, we will complete  Unit One. The Sentence. There will be a chapter test on Wednesday. The students have a review assignment in Google Classroom that is due on Tuesday. They will also be bringing their English book home to help review for the test.

Spelling: Unit 5  - "Greek Roots"
This week's spelling/vocabulary list will include words with the Greek roots "graph", "auto", "photo", "tele", and "rupt".  We will study the meanings of these roots and how to use them correctly. The final TEST is scheduled for Friday, 9/29.

Social Studies:    The chapter 4 test will be given on Friday, September 29th. The students should review their notes and worksheets from class. They should be able to explain how Niagara Falls was formed and how the Niagara River is important to the people in the Northeast region. We will review for the test on Thursday.

Science:   The students will complete a group activity using the Scientific Method. They will need to figure out how to make the longest chain from one piece of paper.

Mrs. Bucklin's Math ClassIn math this week we will take a closer look at multiplicative comparisons, working to understand what it really means when we say something is twice as big, three times as tall or four times as much. The students will make a comparison statement to match a multiplication equation. They will solve story problems involving multiplicative comparisons. There will be a test on Unit 1 Modules 1-3 on Thursday.  The students will be given a practice test to complete for homework on Friday. It will be due on Tuesday. Please look over your child's checkpoint quiz that will come home on Monday.  These concepts will be covered again on the test.  We will also review for the test on Tuesday.
