Week of January 9th

Parents,
This week the students will be taking the MAP reading test on Monday and the math test on Thursday.

Our classroom spelling bee will take place on Tuesday. Two winners from our class will move on to the grade level spelling bee which will be held on January 18th.

Prairieview Needs Market Day Help!
Please be advised that it is Prairieview's turn to volunteer for Market Day and this Saturday is our first time. If you can help, please report to Lakeview at 8:00 a.m. Thanks in advance!


The Six Flags READ TO SUCCEED program which rewards your child with a free pass to the amusement park needs to be completed and turned in on or before Wednesday, February 1st.
Participation is optional.

On Friday our "Too Good For Drugs" program began. A letter was sent home explaining the program. Deputy Seward from the DuPage County Sheriff's Department will be facilitating the program. There will be a weekly assignment that needs to be done with a family member. Please ask your child about this. All homework assignments should be completed and returned to your child's binder. I am asking for a parent signature on each assignment. Your child will be receiving a participation grade in science.

February 1-- Six Flags Read to Succeed forms due
February 20 -- President's Day -- No School

February 28 -- Early Dismissal

Reading:This week we will continue to focus on identifying main ideas and details and using them to summarize a text. The Golden Lion Tamarin Comes Home will be our story as we practice these important skills. There will be a vocabulary quiz on Thursday.

English: In English we will begin our unit "Pronouns. " Subject and object pronouns will be the first two lessons. We will also continue learning how use the six traits of writing. Word Choice and Voice will be the traits we are focusing on.

Spelling: Unit 16- Homework is due on Thursday. Test is Friday.

Science: We will continue our physical science unit. We will read and learn what density is and how it is related to volume. We will also compare and contrast mixtures and solutions. There will be an open book quiz on Friday. A test is tentatively planned for Friday, January 20th.

Social Studies: In social studies we will begin chapter eight, The Road to War. We will learn how British taxes led to greater cooperation among colonies. We will also read and identify the causes of the Stamp Act and the Townshend Acts.

Mrs. Bucklin's Math Class: We will complete chapter 24 this week. The chapter test will be on Friday. A practice test will be sent home on Tuesday. The students will be tested on lessons 2 ,4, 5 and 8. Due to MAPs testing we will not have math on Monday and Thursday.
