Week of October 10th

Important Dates:
October 10 -- Columbus Day -- No School

October 11-- Teacher Institute--No School

Reading: This week we will continue to focus on story structure. The students will be reading several different stories to practice story mapping. We will also learn how an analogy is a comparison of two sets of ideas.

English: In English we will continue Chapter 5 "Capitalization and Punctuation." We will learn how quotations marks can be used in three different ways. The chapter test is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, October 20th.

Spelling: No spelling this week.

Science: In science we will complete chapter 5, Energy and Ecosystems. There will be a test on Friday. We will review for the test Thursday. The students should be studying their notes and review the textbook. A How to Study sheet worth 2 bonus points will be sent home on Wednesday.

Social Studies: In social studies we will continue chapter 5 "The Struggle to Found Colonies." We will read how the search for a Northwest Passage led to the founding of French and Dutch colonies in North America.

Mrs. Bucklin's Math Class: In math we will continue chapter three, Division. This week we will focus on estimating quotients and dividing with 2-digit divisors. The chapter three test is scheduled for Wednesday, October 19th.
